Horror
I cannot watch horror movies, but creating one.... I would love too. The thing about horror movies is that they're scary, when I watch them with my friends(and I will only watch them with my friends) I hide under my blankets. As the suspense builds up, so does my nervous system. But that's exactly how I want my audience to feel. In my film opening, I want it to be left on a cliffhanger and horror movies incorporate that. I want there to be a reason someone would keep watching and in order to get that, there needs to be something interesting that will gain attention. My friend recommended the movie "Smile" to me and when it started, I was genuinely bored out of my mind. However, minutes later, in the same setting, something wild occurred and my eyes were glued to the screen. Like previously stated, I don't like horror movies, but I will never not finish a movie. Once I start it, I must finish. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of the movie, the film opening is what made me want to continue watching.
One of my favorite parts about any movie is the music. I don't think I've ever seen a movie where the music didn't fit the scene. So, for my group and I's project, I will suggest suspenseful sounding music. (That is if we go with the horror route.) I was looking up horror movies as a cannot name them off the top of my head and I came across "Five Nights at Freddy's" and oh my gosh, the film opening was incredible. It provides the audience a little background detail while keeping the horror genre there. After the security guards death scene in the first few minutes of the movie, the music starts playing. Not only was the music amazing and catchy, it paired so well with the film. This is exactly how I want my film opening to go. I think the music along with the suspense along with the cliffhanger will definitely be a memorable film opening.

Teen drama
I'm going to be honest... I didn't know "teen drama" was a real genre. I looked up one of my favorite movies, "Thirteen", because I want to create an emotional film opening. I want to include commonly overlooked social issues such as mental health and in this movie, self-harm is represented through the main character. Another one of my favorite movies is "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." In this film, depression is depicted through the main character's journey and experience with mental health. These movies show that mental health isn't just some side plot, it's something that affects people every day. That's exactly what I want to incorporate into my film opening. I want it to feel raw and real. When I watch movies that handle mental health, I find myself drawn in, not because of the story but because of how relatable the struggles feel. In many films these problems are either exaggerated or ignored overall. I want my film opening to spread awareness. I want to show that mental health isn't just something in the background... but a crucial part of the character's journey.
As soon as I heard I was doing a film opening for my project, I immediately thought of doing something sad and emotional. Color plays a crucial part in films to create a sense of emotion. In the movie "
Thirteen" blue lighting is used all throughout the film to create a feeling of isolation and sadness. It allows the audience to feel the weight of the characters' struggle and that is how I would like my audience to feel in my project. I want colors to reflect the emotions of the scene. Lighting can say so much about a characters' state of mind, and I want to use it in a way that makes the audience know what the character is going through. Just like how music sets the tone, lighting shapes the mood of a scene. I would love to have my film opening to feel immersive where every detail works together to bring the audience in.
